Research shows #happiness to be an equation of positive #emotions + overall life satisfaction. So it is both a combination of how we feel moment to moment as well as our overall movement towards living a satisfying life, whatever that means for us.
So what are some of the ways we can “hack” happiness?
Follow What Feels Good
Wherever possible, choose to do things and hang out with people that make you feel alive and inspired.
Trying to be something or someone you’re not is exhausting! Being authentically you provides space for other people to accept you as you are and for them to be who they are too, it’s a win-win!
Smiling activates neurons in the brain that benefit health and wellbeing as well as releasing feel-good hormones.
Meditation has been observed to improve positive prosocial emotions and behaviours and can aid in reducing depression, stress and anxiety as well.
Taking deep conscious breaths, slowing the exhale on the way out, can support the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (state of rest and digest in the body).
When you focus on what you’re grateful for, the feelings of gratitude expand and you’re more highly attuned to notice more positive things in your life.
Diverse cultures from around the world have reported subjectively that walking barefoot on the Earth enhances health and provides feelings of well-being and positive emotions.
Kindness is a beneficial act for both the receiver and the giver and also tends to ripple out from one act into the lives of those the act has touched.
